Household Hazardous and Electronic Waste Collection

Household Hazardous and Electronic Waste Collection

The Green Sanctuary Group accepts household hazardous waste, including computer and electronics waste. Waste will be accepted on the first Saturday of April and November in 2012,  from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. in the church parking lot. Household Hazardous Waste and non-computer electronics will be transported to Chicago’s Household Chemical Disposal and Computer/ Electronics Recycling Center on Goose Island later on those days.

The following items will be accepted, on the condition that any hazardous chemicals are properly sealed: antifreeze, used motor oil, old gasoline, oil-based (NO latex, NO acrylic) paints, paint thinners, aerosol paints, herbicides, insecticides, pesticides, lawn chemicals, solvents, drain cleaners, cleaning products, pool chemicals, hobby chemicals, mercury, fluorescent lamps and projector bulbs, and cell phones.

In addition to electronic and hazardous waste, we will accept used athletic shoes, eyeglasses, cell phones as well as hard cover and soft cover books for responsible recycling.

This is a service that we will offer to residents of Beverly, Morgan Park and vicinity. Modest contributions to help offset transportation costs are appreciated.

We CANNOT accept any water based paints, freon gas, incandescent bulbs, water soluble calk or mortar, land line or cordless phones, appliances, or bio-hazardous waste. We have to refuse these materials.

Computers, monitors, printers, televisions, boomboxes, stereo equipment and microwave ovens will be recycled through Com2. Com2 has agreed to pick up the electronics, computers and televisions we collect for recycling on our collection day, provided it is all boxed in the containers Com2 drops off for this purpose.

The Green Sanctuary Group thanks Beverly Bank & Trust, our local bank, for its generous financial support of our service. Beverly Bank helps underwrite the cost of our renting a truck to transport the hazardous waste to Goose Island.
