Special Notice About Block Party Permits – July 8, 2020

  • Following recommendations from the CDC and the guidance of City and State officials to avoid non-essential gatherings and any gatherings larger than 50 individuals. Block Party Permits are not being issued during Summer of 2020.
  • CDOT will continue to work closely with the Mayor’s Office and Public Health officials both locally and at the State level to adopt protocols based on the recommendations and guidance provided to keep our residents safe.

Regrettably, the City’s 2020 Jumping Jack Program (scheduled to run from Saturday, May 23 through Sunday, September 6, 2020) has officially been canceled. The decision was made out of an abundance of caution for public health.  We apologize for the inconvenience.

For a block party to be approved and issued by the Chicago Department of Transportation the permit request must be entered by the Aldermanic Office in which the block party is taking place in the Service Request (CSR) system.

Entry of the request constitutes the Aldermanic request for a recreational street closing in accordance with the provisions of Section 9-12-040 of the Municipal Code of the City of Chicago.
