5th Annual Family Skating Party

Mt. Greenwood Park Ice Rink - 3721 W. 111th St. February 16, 2013 — 2:00pm - 5:00pm Do your kids have cabin fever? Has cold weather kept you inside since Christmas? The 19th Ward Youth Foundation invites families to enjoy the winter weather with an afternoon of ice skating at the Mount Greenwood Park Ice Rink, 3721 W. 111th St., this Saturday, February 16th, from 2:00-5:00pm. All ages are welcome. A $1 per person suggested donation is requested. Skate rental, hot chocolate and refreshments will be provided to everyone. We hope you and your family can join us and get some fresh air and exercise. Reservations are preferred and can be made online at www.the19thward.com. Free Paper Shredding

Crosswinds Church - 10835 S. Pulaski February 23 — 9 am — 11 am On Saturday, February 23, 2013 the 19th Ward and Midway Document Destruction will host a free paper shredding event at Crosswinds Church, 10835 S. Pulaski Rd., from 9:00 am - 11:00 am. Residents can bring any old or unwanted papers to be shredded by the Midway Document Destruction Mobile Shredding Truck and later recycled. Shredding documents helps prevent identity theft, while recycling the paper benefits the environment by reducing the amount of waste in landfills and sparing trees. All documents must be loose in order to be shredded; please remove all paper clips, metal binders, rubber bands before you arrive. This service is free of charge. Senior Citizen Fair

Mt. Greenwood Park - 3721 W. 111th St February 21, 2013 — 9:30 am — 11:30 am On Thursday, February 21, 2012, U.S. Congressman Dan Lipinski, State Senator Bill Cunningham, State Representative Fran Hurley, and Alderman Matt O'Shea will co-host a Senior Citizen Fair at Mt. Greenwood Park, 3721 W. 111th St. from 9:30am-11:30am. Information and assistance will be available on various federal, state, county, and city programs for senior citizens including medicare, medicade, social security, and property tax exemptions. Hopefully you can join us and take advantage of all the programs and benefits to which you are entitled. Town Hall Meeting

Bethany Union Church - 1750 W. 103rd St. March 11, 2013 - 7:00 pm On Monday, March 11, 2013, the 19th Ward, East Beverly Association, and Vanderpoel Improvement Association will co-host a town hall meeting at Bethany Union Church, 1750 W. 103rd St. at 7:00pm. There, Alderman Matt O'Shea, Senator Bill Cunningham, and Representative Fran Hurley will provide an update about their work in the City Council & State Legislature. A variety of city agencies and departments will also be present to address individual concerns from residents. Senior Spring Fling

115 Bourbon Street - 3359 W. 115th St. March 19, 2013 - 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm On Tuesday, March 19, 2013, the 19th Ward & Smith Village Senior Living will host the Spring Fling Senior Social Event at 115 Bourbon Street, 3359 W. 115th St., from 12:00pm-3:00pm. The Spring Fling will feature live music, a delicious family style luncheon, dancing and card games for those interested. Tickets are $5 and a cash bar for alcoholic beverages will be available. Reservations are requires and can be made by contacting 773-672-5155. Please note, the Spring Fling is open to 19th Ward residents only.  

Clean and Green Chicago

April 20, 2013 Clean & Green Chicago will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2013. Through this popular volunteer clean-up program, residents, civic associations and other community groups can register to borrow tools to clean and bag debris from local parks, schools, forest preserves and other public spaces. The Department of Streets & Sanitation will then coordinate special debris pickups for cleaned areas. For more than two decades, Chicago's Clean & Green volunteer clean-up program has been bringing the City together with community groups and area residents to clean and beautify neighborhoods citywide.
